Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon Eugene M. D'Amico, III, DDS
Dr. D'Amico graduated from Salesianum High School in 1975 and then the University of Delaware in 1979. He attended the University of Maryland Dental School and graduated in 1983 with honors. Dr. D'Amico served one year as a general dental intern at Depaul Hospital in Norfolk, VA. In 1984, Dr. D'Amico began his four year oral and maxillofacial surgery residence at Long Island Jewish Hospital in New York. Dr. D'Amico has had extensive training in all areas of oral and maxillofacial surgery. This includes orthognathic surgery (surgical orthodontics), temporomandibular joint (TMJ) surgery, placement of the new dental implants based on the Swedish principles for patients who are missing teeth, cosmetic and laser surgery. Dr. D'Amico is certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. D'Amico is married and has two children, Michael and Cara. He lives in Wilmington, Delaware.
Dr. D'Amico opened his office in the Omega Professional Center in 1988 and practiced there until moving to the Medical Arts Pavilion 2 in 1999. That same year he opened a second office in Middletown, DE to serve patients from southern New Castle County.

For years, when area residents needed emergency dental care, they had to travel more than 20 miles for relief. Now, an oral surgeon will be on hand to provide services in Middletown. Dr. Eugene M. D'Amico III has taken residence in the office of orthodontist Clifford Anzillotti on St. Anne's Church Road. Dr. D'Amico is available by appointment 2 days a week right now, but is planning to expand his office hours in the near future.
Dr. D'Amico has had his oral and maxillofacial practice in the Omega Medical Center, in Christiana, for 10 years. Through the years, Dr. D'Amico has been friends with Dr. Anzilotti and has heard about the growth in the Middletown area. "I've been thinking about making a move into this area for several years. There are some good hard-working people who shouldn't have to travel to Wilmington for services like this," he said.
Some of the services Dr. D'Amico offers include anesthesia for dental care, dental implants, Temperomandibular Joint Surgery (TMJ), and trauma patients. Dental implants are titanium tooth implants that are placed in the gum, and used as a root for a tooth, rather than the removable plates that hook onto other teeth. TMJ involves the jaw, when it is disjointed and locks down involuntarily. Dr. D'Amico said this procedure can be done with or without surgery. Traumatic events that can be treated by Dr. D'Amico include broken jaws, damaged eye sockets and broken nasal bones. The most popular practice done by an oral surgeon is the removal of wisdom teeth using anesthesia.
Other practices done by Dr. D'Amico include cosmetic surgery using a laser to remove wrinkles, reduce wrinkles, reduce snoring or to remove growths on the skin. He said using the laser has made his patients very happy because there is no bleeding after surgery and there is limited swelling.
Dr. D'Amico said the most rewarding aspect of being an oral and maxillofacial surgeon has been to see people come into his office in a lot of pain - and leave feeling relief and contentment. He said he has had a warm reception from his new Middletown patients since opening his practice about three months ago. "After being in the hustle and bustle of Christiana for 10 years, it's nice to come to a place that is friendly and appreciative of our services," he said.
Dr. D'Amico's office takes most forms of insurance, and there are immediate appointments available, especially for those in servere pain or infection. An addition to Dr. D'Amico's office has been resident Pat Sharpe, who recently retired from the Dental Associates of Delaware office. Sharpe said she decided to come out of retirement for awhile to see Dr. D'Amico become established in the area. "Plus, I missed everyone so much over here. This way, I can keep my hands in the business and two days per week is just enough for me," she said.
